Unreal 2 The Awakening is another first person shooter and the sequel to the Original Unreal and its expansion. The game was developed by Legend Entertainment (with some assistance from Epic Games) who aren’t around any more and published by Infrogrames and released in 2003. It was then ported to xbox. The game had one expansion which was an addon multiplayer mode called Expanded Multiplayer (XMP) cause the game was only initially released with the Single Player campaign mode. Unfortunately the multiplayer mode had only one game mode and a few maps cause only one version was released. This was because Legend Entertainment was being shut down in the process.

Engine

Unreal 2 was made on the second version of the Unreal Engine, Unreal Engine 2, released in 2002 and developed by Tim Sweeney again. With Unreal Engine 2 you could make more detailed maps that were 100 times better than the first Unreal. The engine was later updated to add even more features like a particle system, skeletal animation system and ragdoll physics.

What you need to mod this game

You need the base game of Unreal 2 which contains the editor tool for map making. You also need the U2XMP addon if you want to create stuff for multiplayer. In the editor as you browse through it you will notice a lot of unfinished content that was left out the singleplayer campaign. That is because there was a heap of content that was cut from game during development. Stuff like weapons, enemies, environments and vehicles. Some you will see in the editor other content you can you only read about.

You will need a text editor like notepad for scripting, image manipulation software like Photoshop for textures and modelling animation software like 3DStudios Maya.
